Belle Boyd: Female Saboteur

In the world of espionage, a person’s sexuality and identity can be used as a weapon. In particular, this idea can be seen with female spies. Belle Boyd, born Maria Isabella Boyd, was a confederate spy in the American Civil War. Belle Boyd was a successful spy, because she was a woman. Belle used her beauty as a way to obtain information from Union officers and was not perceived as a threat. She operated from her father’s hotel and passed along valuable information to Confederate generals.

How to Publish Your Digital Stories

Good afternoon ENG 413 Sabotage Novel students! The time for you to have completed your digital stories draws near. In order to complete these stories and get them out in the public eye more easily, there's a few things you'll need to do.

Dr. Rozelle has sent you an e mail invitation to join this blog as a full author. In order to accept that invitation, click on the link in the e mail, and sign in with your Google account. If you don't have a Google account, you'll need to create one (free, and it only takes a few minutes). Once you have an account created and have joined the blog, you'll be able to write posts and post them here.

Tomorrow, when your digital story is complete, go ahead and write a post on this blog. All you need to do is copy the story embed code from your Storify account and paste it in the "HTML" editor section of this blog. If you have any questions about this process, don't hesitate to get in touch with me via e mail or in the library. I'll be there tomorrow night (Wed.) until 9 PM.

Note If you used Storyful to construct your Digital Story, you will not be able to embed it into this blog. Simply write a brief introduction to your story and embed a link to it in a post. See my story below:

Cultural Study (1000 words + various media): Students will use the website storyful.com to design a cultural analysis of some group, agent, or issue relevant to the course.  You should start on this project early in the semester to compile your analysis, to include such things as audio tweets, videos, footage, and digital images.  To get a better understanding of what cultural study means, take a look at this entry in the Johns Hopkins Guide to Literary Theory and Criticism: http://ezproxy.montevallo.edu:2422/cgi-bin/view.cgi?eid=65.

Luddites, Saboteurs, Monkeywrenchers, Weathermen, Provocateurs, and Double Agents are enigmatic and elusive targets for the literary critic.  This course will track the literary saboteur, identifying textual evidence to apprehend the logic of material and semiotic direct action.

ENG 413/513 students, please use this blog to claim your critical articles for the class!
